Milwaukee Public Schools Executive Director Wendell Willis and Superintendent Keith Posley joined Milwaukee Magazine Editor and Publisher Carole Nicksin for a livestream lunch Friday.

Willis and Posley talked about the challenges the school system has faced during the pandemic and how the MPS Foundation is working to address these issues and support students and families.

Posley said they are still exploring options for the fall, including remote learning, in-person learning and schedule rotations.

“We are doing everything possible to make sure that we have a successful start,” Posley said.

In the meantime, MPS has a wide range of resources available for students and families during the pandemic. Posley said they took surveys to assess the needs of each student and family, and then distributed Chromebooks for students who didn’t have computer access at home.

Other resources include online schedules to make sure students don’t have too much screen time, academic kits and hygiene kits. Additionally, meals are distributed to both students and families in need, and school staff check in with each student regularly to make sure all needs are being met.
