Caitlin Cullen, owner of The Tandem restaurant, joined Milwaukee Magazine Editor and Publisher Carole Nicksin for a livestream lunch Tuesday.

Cullen talked about how The Tandem is providing free meals to the community during the pandemic. Since the beginning of March, the restaurant has provided meals for pickup from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday.

“There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t hand out at least 400 meals,” Cullen said.

The Tandem has received funding from the World Central Kitchen, an organization that combats hunger and poverty, as well as donations from the community. Cullen said they have begun collaborating with several other restaurants in Milwaukee to provide these meals.

The Tandem plans to provide this community service as long as the need continues, Cullen said.

“This is affecting everyone in a way that we haven’t seen before,” Cullen said. “Demand is overwhelming.”
