Fein Brothers’ sleek Bronzeville showroom (2023 N. Martin Luther King Dr.) could make a cookware aficionado out of you. Eye candy is everywhere – gleaming stainless steel and kitchen tools from potato peelers to giant rolling pins to plastic squeeze bottles to ravioli cutters. I’m grabbing stuff I don’t really need and dropping it into my shopping basket because the luster of my own well-used kitchenware has most decidedly worn off.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

With a history that starts in 1929, Fein devotes the majority of its energy to helping restaurant operators build out or remodel and outfit their kitchens. But it’s also a store where people like you and me can shop, too. Their restaurant clients include DanDan, the Camp Bars and the Lowlands Group. What do the owners think makes the Milwaukee dining market unique? “The number of independently owned restaurants,” says president Todd Minkin. “We are so fortunate, compared to other markets.” Our mom-and-pop-heavy market has helped another indie business thrive and kept home cooks immersed in stock pots and baking sheets. Shopping hours: Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

3 Fein Finds

  • Cast-iron skillets in sizes from a single fried egg up to a large deep-dish pizza
  • Plastic cutting boards from as small as a tiny notebook to big enough to hold a couple of hefty holiday turkeys
  • Baking dishes – bundts to large rectangular sheet pans
