This Is Wisconsin’s Biggest Lavender Field

On Door County’s Washington Island, you’ll find the state’s largest field of a certain aromatic flower. With nearly 20,000 lavender plants, Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm and Shop operates from June to September.

You can pick flowers, hear live music and even snack on lavender treats.

“You can see [the lavender], you can smell it, and you can see the bees around,” says co-owner Martine Anderson, a native of France, which is known for its spectacular lavender fields.

At Fragrant Isle, the bees sometimes get so drunk on the nectar that they fall asleep on the flowers.

“The lavender is something special,” Anderson says. “It sings to you.”
