This Bites: Scones, Wahlburgers and the ‘Taste of Milwaukee’

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

It’s not St. Patrick’s Day until you put something green in your mouth, or something potatoey or bready. And today, or at least on the latest This Bites podcast (on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee), that bready item is the scone.

Now technically that’s maybe more of a Scottish thing, and here in America, our version of scones is probably sweeter than the Scot one. Anyway, we’re going to play a round of “Game of Scones,” and talk about some of the best scones in the city.

Do you care that a new chain burger joint is coming to Milwaukee? Am betting you do. Later this year, Wahlburgers will open its second area location, on Broadway in the Third Ward. The Massachusetts-based chain (co-owned by a couple of famous Wahlberg brothers, Mark and Donnie) will be very close to the Third Ward location of fast food burger chain Shake Shack. Competition? Yes, but they’re different. Learn more about what Wahlburgers will offer.

We’re in a season of restaurant tasting events. Coming up on March 21 is the 37th annual Taste of Milwaukee at the Italian Community Center. Hear about the local restaurants offering their specialties.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
