This Bites: Home Cooking and Supporting Local Restaurants

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

This Bites is operating a little differently during our state’s “Safer at Home” order. My co-host, Tarik Moody and I, recorded our segment from each of our respective homes. And our content will be different for a while. On this segment, we talked about what we’re cooking right now. And you will hear more on that in the future. As a teaser, I’ll tell you that Tarik talks about the pork belly sliders he made this week, and I talk about my attempts to make the perfect (for me) homemade pizza crust.

In timely topics, we discuss the Milwaukee attorney who used his birthday as the impetus for a GoFundMe campaign raising funds for local restaurants. He was able to raise donations of more than $25K but had to start paying out with funds from his own bank account. More about that story on our segment.

If you’re a beer lover, this will be welcome news. A small co-op brewery has organized a beer drive-thru in St. Francis this weekend. This is a great chance for you stock up beer during our quarantine times. We’ll tell you which craft breweries are participating. You can also read more about the story here.

Vegan or just vegan-curious? Milwaukee’s Maya Ophelia’s is offering no-contact delivery of their really delicious plant-based dishes, from sandwiches to nachos to Filipino dishes. In other news, Braise has multiple options for shopping for meals and groceries.

Have you ever wanted to have your dinner delivered by a drag queen? You’re in luck. Order through Hamburger Mary’s and they can send the Delivery Divas. Listen for details!

This Bites airs at 8 a.m. on Friday mornings on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. If you miss it, no sweat. You can catch our podcast right here.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
