This Bites: A Food Truck Park, Romantic Dining and More

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

This Bites ‒ the culinary podcast on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee ‒ has a romantic bent this week, with the prospect of Valentine’s Day just a few days away.

Based on an “Ask Ann” column in Mil Mag’s February issue, I offer up some suggestions for restaurants to go for the most heart-shaped of days coming up. One of them is Mistral, the Mediterranean place adjacent to the Avalon Atmospheric Theater in Bay View. Listen to our segment to find out about my other suggestions.

Yeah, I’m ready for summer food truck season. And this year, the Mazorca taco truck people are hoping to open a bar and adjacent food truck park in Walker’s Point. If plans move forward, Zocalo Tavern would open in a 2,226-square-foot building on Sixth Street.

If you’re craving pho, all this month you can get in on the Phobruary deal going on in Silver City. Three restaurants are offering $5 pho (dine-in only). Learn more about where to get this wonderful, soul-satisfying Vietnamese soup.

The Dim Sum, Give Sum Gala, a benefit for Kennedy’s Disease, returns this year to the Italian Community Center. This multi-course event, founded by DanDan chefs Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite, is also a star chef-studded affair, with everyone from Adam Siegel of The Bartolotta Restaurants and Justin Aprahamian of Sanford to Stephanie Izard of Chicago’s Girl and the Goat preparing courses.

We finish up the segment with a few local restaurants offering special V-Day menus.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
