This Bites: A New Caribbean Restaurant, Christkindl Markets and White Truffles

Curried goat, a festive outdoor shopping and the world’s most luxurious fungi.

On or after this long holiday weekend, take some time to listen to This Bites, on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. You’ll hear which food culture topics are are front and center in our minds — and you can laugh at co-host Tarik Moody’s corny jokes.

First up on this episode is a new restaurant called Jewels Caribbean (2230 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.), which had a grand opening celebration on Sat. Nov. 24. Besides a full dinner menu of things like jerk chicken, curried goat and coconut shrimp, Jewels serves Sunday brunch featuring traditional foods like saltfish and “bakes.” We’ll tell you about them.

This year is the first that Milwaukee is hosting a Christkindl market outside the new Fiserv Forum. It runs through Dec. 31 and offers all kinds of snacks and gift items, plus a festive environment. West Allis Farmers Market is also hosting a two-day “Christkindlmarkt” on Nov. 30-Nov. 1. Get a load of the list of vendors!

We wrap up the segment talking about the White Truffle Festival at Ristorante Bartolotta. White truffles, now at peak season, are really special. Learn why.
