8 Things to Do to Celebrate Juneteenth in Milwaukee

Check out the annual parade, a food event at Summerfest and more.

1. Juneteenth Jubilee Parade

JUNE 19 FROM 9 A.M.-4 P.M. | DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DRIVE

Milwaukee’s 54th Juneteenth Jubilee Parade and Celebration kicks off with its annual parade at 9 a.m. The parade will start at 14th and Aktinson before proceeding along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Locust Street. Participants include members of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers and more. The parade will be streamed live on TMJ4 starting at 9 a.m. A map for the parade route can be found here.

2. Juneteenth Day Celebration

JUNE 19 FROM 9 A.M.-4 P.M. | ROSE PARK, 3045 N. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DRIVE

This four-block festival hosted by Northcott Neighborhood House will feature community and resource booths, including a Veteran’s Zone, Teen Zone, Kids Zone and more. There will also be music and food for attendees to enjoy.

3. America’s Black Holocaust Museum: Slice of History

JUNE 19 FROM NOON-4 P.M. | AMERICA’S BLACK HOLOCAUST MUSEUM

ABHM Milwaukee’s Slice of History kicks off with free slices of pizza and the opportunity to show off your Milwaukee knowledge in some local history bingo. After that, it’s off to story time, where people of all ages will have the chance to learn about the history of Juneteenth. Other opportunities at the museum include arts and crafts and an interactive freedom wall. Admission to the event is free.

4. Milwaukee Juneteenth Photowalk

JUNE 19 FROM 9 A.M.-7 P.M | STARTING AT JUNETEENTH PARADE

Local photographers are gathering to photograph Juneteenth in Milwaukee together this year, starting at the annual Juneteenth Parade before heading to surrounding festivals and then moving on to Summerfest. It’ll be a day full of networking, photo opportunities and fun. Tickets are free, but reserve your spot here

5. Summerfest Juneteenth Evening Celebration

JUNE 19 AT 6 P.M. | HENRY MAIER FESTIVAL PARK

For the first time ever, Milwaukee’s Juneteenth celebration will extend to the Summerfest grounds. Starting at 6 p.m. on Juneteenth, admission to Summerfest is only $19. The Juneteenth court will be introduced at the event, as well as influential music groups like The Isley Brothers and Milwaukeean Eric Benet.

6. A Taste of Juneteenth

JUNE 21 FROM 12:45 P.M.-2 P.M. | HENRY MAIER FESTIVAL PARK

Summerfest and Northcott Neighborhood House will debut a new ticketed event, “A Taste of Juneteenth” on Saturday, June 21 at Summerfest. The event will feature local food vendors, such as Atwood Hwy BBQ Company, Dear Florence Sweets, Glad’s Kitchen, It’s Smackn, Jericho’s BBQ, Johnny’s Kitchen Creations, Peachy’s Plates, Pop’s BBQ Memphis Style, K’s Finger Food Catering and Uyghur Grill. All proceeds will directly support the participating vendors. Tickets are $100 and include same day admission to Summerfest.

7. Juneteenth Gospel Fest

JUNE 21 AT NOON | GRANVILLE CONNECTION, 8633 W. BROWN DEER RD.

The second iteration of the Juneteenth Gospel Fest is set to kick off on June 21. The event will feature local food vendors, a children’s culture corner, community resources, health screenings and more. The event is free to attend.

8. Juneteenth Milwaukee’s Concert Series

EVERY SATURDAY FROM JUNE 21 TO AUGUST 23 FROM 2-6 P.M. | CLINTON E. AND BERNICE K. ROSE PARK
