There’s a bar in town where you can take your drinks to-go. The bar is called Concoctions and it just opened up shop in November at 4943 W. Fond Du Lac Ave.
Now you might be thinking, “That doesn’t sound legal.” But it is, and here’s how it works. Customers choose from a variety of specialty virgin drinks, then there’s the choice of liquor. The liquor options are offered in 50ml nip sizes at different price points, including rails (known there as “cheap shots”) or top-shelf liquors (call them “hot shots”). The alcohol is served on the side, which means the customer can legally take it on the road.

Concoctions was founded by Hyacinth Nembhardt in 2007. It started as a liquor store with a bar inside with specialty drinks to-go. She closed the venue in 2009 but continued selling specialty beverages at Jazz in the Park and other local festivals. In 2017, she launched Milwaukee’s first mobile drink truck.
The menu includes on-the-rocks, frozen and hot drinks with flavors inspired by Hyacinth’s Jamaican background. Some crowd favorites so far have been the home-made Rum Punch, the candy-like Treasure Beach, and the to-go bottle of the “Henny Penny.”
