There Will Still be Free Sausages on Fred Usinger Day!

This time-honored tradition lives on.

Despite the last year being so very different, Fred Usinger Day will go on. The happy news arrived by email press release from Hans Weissgerber III, owner of Old German Beer Hall, indicating that the 14-year tradition is carrying on as planned, and soon, too.

Per tradition, the over 140-year-old wurst-making company will give out free sausages on Tuesday, Feb. 23 (8 a.m.-8 p.m) at Old German Beer Hall. Note that there is a limit of one free sausage per person.

“Some things just can’t be cancelled!” says Weissgerber III, by press release.  “With a little creativity and some extra effort, we are honored to be keeping this celebration of our German heritage and one Milwaukee’s most iconic brands.”

There are two ways to get your brat: By walk-up grab and go service, offered along the sidewalk in front of the Old German Beer Hall (1009 N. Old World Third St., located across the street from Usinger’s). The second way is to get a seat inside the Munich-style beer hall and have a Hofbräu Munich beer along with the free brat.

The 45-minute seating sessions can be reserved online. Each seat is $10 and includes your choice of 1 liter of beer or a half-liter of wine or soft drink. If you want a longer experience, you can book multiple sessions. Capacity is limited, however, and all patrons must be seated, a mask must be worn when entering the building and at all times when out of your seat.

Also, the Usinger retail store (1030 N. Old World Third St.) will be offering retail specials for Fred Usinger Day as well.
