The Vanguard (2659 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) isn’t just a Bay View sausage emporium. It’s a Bay View source of special-event food deliciousness like this Saturday’s “Grill Communication: The Return of Love Handle.” Love Handle’s departure from Milwaukee in 2015 left a dent in our sandwich community. But owners Chris and Ally Benedyk moved back to Indianapolis (where they’d lived prior to landing in MKE) and now operate a Love Handle sandwich shop there. If you’re missing some Love (who isn’t?), get to The Vanguard on July 16, from noon-5 p.m.
The menu will include pig heart with Thai jam; porchetta with flaming hot mayo, white American and pickled onion; vegan porchetta with Thai jam and pickled onion; and foie gras hush puppies.
