The Tandem to Return to Operating as a Restaurant

After a year full of giving back to the community, The Tandem will be returning to restaurant life.

Since the pandemic started, The Tandem restaurant (1848 W. Fond du Lac Ave.) has been focused on feeding those in need in our community. That free-meal program has been supported by area chefs (cooking meals) and from the international nonprofit World Central Kitchen.

Now it’s time for The Tandem to go back to what it was created to do – function as a restaurant. Owner Caitlin Cullen announced the news on Facebook that beginning in June, the free delivery meal program will transition to UpStart Kitchen (4323 W. Fond du Lac Ave.). UpStart is the Milwaukee incubator kitchen that helps local food entrepreneurs get their businesses off the ground.

It’s going to take some time for The Tandem to return to operating as a for-profit business. Cullen told me she hopes to reopen in late July/early August, but they need some much-deserved time off first. In the meantime, read The Tandem’s post below and start salivating for its fried chicken:

VOTE FOR MILWAUKEE’S BEST BEER!

What’s Brew City’s best? We’ve picked 16 of our favorite Milwaukee craft beers for a March Madness-style tournament, but it’s up to you to pick the winner! Will it be bright and hoppy? Dark and malty? A zippy lager? Every one is worthy of the title; who will claim the sudsy crown?

Sometimes it’s the hard work that pays off and sometimes it’s the universe who’s directing traffic. This is one of those times when it’s both. Starting in June, the Tandem will be transitioning our free delivery meal program over to the good people at Upstart Kitchen so we can start getting back to being a restaurant. With the support of the City of Milwaukee, the entrepreneurs at UpStart will flex their culinary muscle to deliver thousands of free meals to Milwaukee residents each month. Registration for the meals will still take place on the Tandem’s website for the time being, and June meal registration goes live at 5pm on Thursday, May 27th! You will notice a few extra demographic questions when registering for next month – just know we never share this data with anyone, but instead use the info to better advocate for the long-term success of the program and its participants.

ONE MORE THING: Because of this transition, registration is coming late this month… which means meals will also be late this month. Once you’re signed up, you can expect meal deliveries to take place starting the week of June 7th. Thank you for riding with us for this long, we love y’all and can’t wait to see you at the restaurant someday soon
