The Creators of BelAir Cantina to Open a Taco Place in Shorewood

If you love BelAir Cantina, we have the name of a new restaurant for you.

BelAir Cantina — which has five Milwaukee locations and nailed the best taco award in our Best of Milwaukee Readers’ Choice — is going to get a sister. The owners are opening HIYA Taco, in the former location of Ruckus Burger (4144 N. Oakland Ave., Shorewood) in early 2020.

The concept will offer all sorts of tacos, including traditional, breakfast and “novel non-traditional” varieties, along with salads, shareable plates, and vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options. More than 15 different tacos are expected to be on the menu consistently, per co-owner Kristyn Eitel. HIYA will be a counter-service operation with seating available. Also, delivery and carryout.

The Shorewood Village Board recently approved a Class B liquor license for the business, so consequently, it will offer margaritas (frozen, on the rocks) with fresh fruit purees, as well as aqua frescas, local beers and canned cocktails, among other drinks.

And as far as renovations to the space go, those are happening as well. Again, the projected roll-out is early 2020.
