Fashion Week Live Stream

The spring 2014 collections, right from the comfort of your Milwaukee digs. The full lineup of shows can be found here. Be sure to watch the “Project Runway” finale shows on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. Here’s hoping there’s a Milwaukeean left standing.

The New Uniform

Ross models her own designs. For Milwaukeeans who’ve attended private schools, or schools with uniform codes, you can sympathize with the yearly struggle to conform, yet show some personality and be comfortable – simultaneously. And for Kendall Ross, a 17-year-old, soon-to-be senior at University School of Milwaukee, the uniform skirt has been problematic since she was a freshman. The worst part, she says, of abiding the uniform code was actually tracking down that appropriate, school-approved skirt – even in local malls. So she took it upon herself to find an alternative or, rather, make one. In three different styles. Starting…

Victoria’s Secret Angel Coming to Milwaukee

Next Thursday (July 18) from 5-7 p.m., Victoria’s Secret Angel Erin Heatherton will make an appearance at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa. This is all part of VS’ U.S. of Angels Summer Swim Tour, which is making stops all over the country. Apparently, VS fans used Twitter and Instagram to vote for which Angel they’d like to stop in their city. Skokie, Ill.,-native Heatherton won Milwaukeeans’ hearts.  What you definitely will want to take advantage of at this event is the VS “swim experts” who will be on hand to help you find a swimsuit for your body type. Like a…

Local ‘Project Runway’ Contestant’s New Collection

Timothy Westbrook has already enjoyed a nice start to his fiber arts and fashion design career. Originally from Wanakena, New York, at the ripe age of 23 he became the Pfister Hotel’s youngest artist-in-residence in 2012. And his star has risen quite a bit higher due to his selection as a contestant on Lifetime’s reality TV fashion design show “Project Runway,” where he will compete against another Milwaukeean, Miranda Kay Levy.  When Westbrook finished his residency at the Pfister, he opened a design studio in the Shops of Grand Avenue, where he, presumably, has worked on his latest collection titled…

Amy Matto- New York Designer with Wisconsin Roots

Amy Matto was born and raised in Wisconsin, but has since moved to New York, where her design career – and company – have flourished. Despite no formal design training, she opened her company in 2009, and since then her dresses have made appearances on red carpets and a host of morning shows. Perhaps best of all, her clothes are made in the U.S. Peruse some of my favorites from her spring and summer collections below. You’ll notice her style leans toward playful and polished, and many of theses dresses could be styled for day or night. The Harper is a…

Mount Mary’s 2013 CREO Fashion Show

Last Friday, Mount Mary’s students hosted their annual fashion show and this year’s theme was “juxtapose.” It was certainly well executed. The show was held at the Harley-Davidson Museum, whose parking set-up looks a bit like a runway, and was a fitting way to  enter the show. I attended the 8 p.m. show, the last of the three that day.  Once inside, a large gallery was transformed into a narrow cinder block-shaped runway, w hich wrapped around metal support structures. Purple and blue lighting added flair. The beats, of course, were flowing. Once everyone had taken their seats, the show…
