Last year, when Summerfest was postponed to September, it came as a shock. Summerfest had never been in September before. Then, the event was inevitably canceled, and 2020 was the first year Milwaukee would go without a Summerfest in 53 years.
In 2021, we know the drill. When we heard that Summerfest would be moved to September, our jaws didn’t drop, we didn’t run around in circles thinking the world was ending or call our mothers to tell them we love them. The news was relatively unsurprising.
“While the progress made through the vaccine rollout is encouraging, we believe it is in the public’s best interest to hold the festival in September to give government leaders and healthcare organizations enough time to distribute the vaccine,” said Don Smiley, President & Chief Executive Officer of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc.
Here are the new dates: Sept. 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18.
While the dates have changed, the festival will remain largely the same. Summerfest will still have its normal format, running Thursday-Saturday for three consecutive weekends.
And for those of you saying, “Why don’t they just call it Fallfest then?” The first day of Fall isn’t until Sept. 22 this year, so quit it.
Summerfest organizers are working to reschedule American Family Insurance Amphitheater concerts and will provide updates in the coming weeks.
Valid tickets for the 2020 and 2021 festival will be redeemed during the new dates. Refunds are also an option. To get your tickets, go to Summerfest.com.
