On its opening morning today, the walk-up window at the new, much-anticipated Stone Creek Downer (2650 N.) was packed, as was the sunny outdoor patio. As was the inside space facing the espresso bar. Stone Creek is offering a deal-a-day for the next week, to celebrate the grand opening. SC also rolled out its new ProjectEAT menu – the only Stone Creek cafe so far to serve this – of egg sandwiches, Liege-style waffles and housemade yogurt bowls.
This location is undoubtedly going to be a popular spot this summer.
The food menu weaves in the connection to Stone Creek’s coffee. Illustrative of that is the coffee butter + bacon waffle, which infuses the roaster’s Green Bike Espresso in the butter. The Belgian style of waffle served here incorporates pearl sugar for a crunchy topping. Other waffles include one topped with hickory smoked ham, Gruyère cheese sauce and an over-easy egg, and another with Purple Door malted vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and rainbow sprinkles ($6-$8.50). Egg sandwiches range from avocado and spicy egg with sriracha mayo and pickled relish to Costa Rican black bean and egg ($6.50-$7.50). The yogurt bowls include berries and granola and (a tart, delicious) rosewater yogurt with lemon curd, candied lemon, toasted pistachios and pistachio oil ($6-$7).
If you’re a cold brew coffee fan, they’ve added some interesting flavors this summer – for examples, a cold brew Palmer (Stone Creek Roy G. Biv light brew coffee with lemonade), Thai cold brew made with SC’s Jet Black blend with cardamom, vanilla and cream (lightly sweet and spicy, not all overpowering).
