Slice of Ice at Red Arrow Park, which is decked out in holiday décor, will open Friday with free skate rentals from 4 to 6 p.m.
Local officials will celebrate the opening with remarks and a formal welcome at the outdoor ice-skating facility at 3:30 p.m.
“Slice of Ice is a cherished winter tradition in our community and I invite all Milwaukee County families, children, residents and visitors to come out and take part in this special ice-skating adventure,” Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said.

Slice of Ice is free for those with their own skates. Skate rentals are available at the warming house throughout the season, with rates of $8 for youth (17 and under), $11 for adults and $5 for pre-scheduled school and non-profit groups. Skate sharpening is also offered for $7.
“Slice of Ice is a shining example of how Milwaukee County Parks brings joy and vibrancy to our community. This rink provides a welcoming space for families and friends to create lasting memories while enjoying our beautiful Downtown during the holiday season,” Milwaukee County Supervisor Sheldon Wasserman said.
Skate helpers, provided by the Milwaukee Admirals, will be available for a $1 rental fee with a $5 refundable deposit or photo ID. For skaters with mobility impairments, ADA ice sleds are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Whether you’re skating for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, we’re proud to offer an inclusive and accessible space for all to enjoy winter recreation,” Milwaukee County Parks Executive Director Guy Smith said.

- Sunday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Dec. 24: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Dec. 25: 4 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Dec. 26 – 31: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Jan. 1: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
January and February:
- Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 11:00 a.m.)
- Monday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 2 p.m.)
- Friday: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 2 p.m.)
- Saturday: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. (skate rentals begin at 11:00 a.m.)
The opening of Slice of Ice comes a little more than two weeks after Biggby Coffee began operating at Red Arrow Park. The coffee shop replaced a Starbucks location that operated at the site for nearly 20 years before closing in November 2023.
