Schooner to Hang with Tall-ship Pals

14 or more vessels will visit Great Lakes ports; no stop in Milwaukee, unfortunately

Denis Sullivan’s going to be moving around the Great Lakes with some friends this summer.

Milwaukee’s replica Great Lakes schooner, which docks at Discovery World on the lakefront, leaves June 30 for Fairport Harbor, Ohio, where it will participate in the Tall Ships Challenge.

Fourteen or more tall ships will participate in a tour of Great Lakes cities – though all 14 won’t be at every port. And though Milwaukee’s not a tour stop, Joe Ewing, volunteer coordinator and archivist/historian for the Sullivan, said one or two might lay over here in the course of the tour.

The ships, which will include a replica Viking longboat from Norway and a replica Spanish galleon from Spain, will be at Navy Pier in Chicago July 27 through 30 and at Green Bay August 5 through 7.

The Sullivan will be back in town for a few days after Green Bay, and then leaving for Duluth, Minnesota, on August 13.
