On the Rise: Greenwich Park Apartments

A mixed-income community.

Work is expected to finish this fall on an unusual housing development on the East Side, near Columbia-St. Mary’s and Whole Foods. The 54-unit Greenwich Park Apartments, opening in early 2017, will include a rare mix of subsidized, rent-restricted and market rate apartments. “The goal is to create a fully mixed-income community,” says Mark Angelini, president of Mercy Housing Lakefront, a division of Mercy Housing, a national affordable housing company with Catholic roots. Matthew Desmond, whose book Evicted reported on housing troubles in Milwaukee, will deliver the keynote at a fundraiser for Lakefront on Nov. 2 (more at mercyhousing.org/2016liveinhope).

Matt has written for Milwaukee Magazine since 2006, when he was a lowly intern. Since then, he’s held the posts of assistant news editor and, most recently, senior editor. He’s lived in South Carolina, Tennessee, Connecticut, Iowa, and Indiana but mostly in Wisconsin. He wants to do more fishing but has a hard time finding worms. For the magazine, Matt has written about city government, schools, religion, coffee roasters and Congress.
