One of the questions my friends and I invariably ask each other when we’re catching up Zoom video calls or phone chats is, “What have you been cooking?” These are friends that I’d always have these convos with, but that subject has now taken on greater importance in our everyday lives because we’re home so much, cooking for ourselves and taking comfort – at least, I hope – in those meals. And one comfort is a bowl of warm ramen.
Making that from scratch is not happening in my home. And why should it when someone else can make it – a lot better – for me.
For a while now, Red Light Ramen (1749 N. Farwell Ave.) has been selling kits you can buy through the restaurant’s website and pick up curbside, Tues-Sun noon-8 p.m. As of this weekend (April 24), the kits are also for sale at Metcalfe’s Markets, which has a location here in Wauwatosa (6700 W. State St.) and two in Madison. If you can’t get to the East Side restaurant to pick up a kit, hitting Metcalfe’s may be a whole lot more convenient for you.
The grocery store stocks three flavors – mushroom miso ($14.99), tonkotsu ($15.99) and chicken paitan ($15.99). The kits come complete with broth, noodles and toppings. Instant comfort? Absolutely.
