Where can you find professional ballplayers, comic book creators and thousands of costumed pop culture fans under one roof? At Pop Con Milwaukee, the largest event of its kind in the Midwest. The convention, now in its second year, takes place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Troy Kinunen gives us the inside scoop.
1. Why Milwaukee?
Wisconsin is a happening place right now, and doing business in Milwaukee is more economical than doing business in Chicago.
2. What was the takeaway from last year’s Pop Con?
We learned how to cater to vendors and guests. This year the celebrities will have their own section in the convention center.
3. Who was your favorite celebrity in attendance?
It had to be Caroll Spinney, who played Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. “Sesame Street” debuted in 1969, and I was born (the same year). To be able to talk to Big Bird and hear stories about what it’s like to be a puppeteer was pretty special.
