‘Phobruary’ Is a Super Reason to Visit Silver City

Two Silver City restaurants are celebrating this dreamy Vietnamese soup all month long.

The season, the weather, the world – there’s every reason to want to hunker down over a steaming bowl of pho. And soon, you’ll really want to because Phobruary is back! That’s the initiative, now in its 14th year, that rallies support for our community of Southeast Asian restaurants by highlighting this aromatic Vietnamese soup.

If you’ve never had it, get on that. In the world canon of soups, it is a superstar – with a bone broth seasoned with spices like cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. But it’s the star anise that really gives it depth. You can typically find beef and chicken versions, with rice noodles and the traditional garnishes (Thai basil, bean sprouts, lime wedges) and sauces.

Phobruary participants include Vientiane Noodle Shop (3422 W. National Ave.) and Thai Bar B-Que (3417 W. National Ave.), neighboring restaurants in the Silver City neighborhood.

All month, Vientiane is offering this promotion Tuesday-Friday: a small bowl of beef or meatball pho for $8. Dine-in only.

At Thai Bar-B-Que, the Phobruary promotions are: a small steak pho bowl ($8), six crab rangoons ($7), three egg rolls ($7) and a small chicken fried rice ($7). The promotions run Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and are for dine-in service only.

Throughout the month (Feb 2-27), diners can enter a giveaway for a $25 gift card while dining at each participating restaurant.

Organizers of the event say support is especially critical as these businesses will be affected by the extensive, years-long road reconstruction project on National Avenue set to begin later this year.
