Mitchell International Airport Gets a New Shop

Bronzeville Crossing will introduce travelers to the neighborhood’s history and businesses.

All frequent fliers making a stop in Milwaukee can now get a glimpse of Bronzeville at Bronzeville Crossing, a new store in Mitchell International Airport. The store held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The store, which is located post-security in Concourse C, includes displays highlighting the Bronzeville district’s history and culture. “Bronzeville Crossing is more than just a retail location; it’s a place where travelers can come together in the spirit of the neighborhood,” says airport director Brian Dranzik. “The maps, graphics, and music in the new store take travelers on a journey inside the heart of Bronzeville while providing a top-notch shopping experience for passengers.”

In collaboration with retail partner Paradies Lagardère, the store will feature local products from Bronzeville businesses in the future. The store also aims to highlight businesses owned by people of color, a part of County Executive David Crowley’s vision of racial equity for Milwaukee.

“I’m honored to be a part of this historic ribbon-cutting which not only advances our racial equity goals, but also shows Milwaukee County’s commitment to helping Black-owned businesses thrive,” says Crowley. “The airport will source locally crafted goods highlighting the Bronzeville neighborhood’s rich history and showing off the many talents of residents who work there and call Bronzeville home.”

The ribbon-cutting was attended by several members of the Black Caucus of the County Board of Supervisors, as well as by Crowley and Alderwoman Milele Coggs, whose 6th Aldermanic District includes the Bronzeville neighborhood. “The store provides a great way for travelers to get a little experience of Bronzeville,” says Coggs.

The store’s opening is the latest step in a larger initiative to revitalize Mitchell’s retail and dining options for visitors to the airport. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that Bronzeville Crossing is our latest retail shop to open as part of this major refresh,” says Dranzik.

The store is open daily from 5 a.m. until the last flight departs.
