The July 3 fireworks on Milwaukee’s lakefront are canceled this year. Milwaukee County Parks announced Friday that the show would be canceled because the event does not have a sponsor to help cover the cost.
“We recognize the disappointment that this news may bring. However, our commitment to providing vibrant and accessible recreational spaces remains unwavering,” said Guy Smith, the Parks director.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
The annual fireworks cost $350,000, according to the department, and the event also costs about $20,000 in staffing, fencing, portable bathrooms and other costs. The department said it cannot afford that cost without sponsorship. Last year’s event had several sponsors, including American Family Insurance, J&M Displays, the Milwaukee Parks Foundation and T&M Partners.
The lakefront fireworks were also canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic and staffing shortages.
“While we understand the cherished tradition this event holds for many in our community, we are committed to providing alternative celebrations to ensure a memorable Independence Day experience for all,” the Parks department said in a news release, noteing several other Fourth of July celebrations happening across the city and suburbs.
Other Independence Day fireworks will occur at:
- Alcott Park
- Gordon Park
- Humboldt Park
- Jackson Park
- Lake Park
- Lincoln Park
- Mitchell Park
- Noyes Park
- Washington Park
- Wilson Park
King Park will also host a Fourth celebration, although it won’t include fireworks.
Hales Corners Park; Sheridan Park in Cudahy; Kletzsch Park in Glendale; and Grant Park in South Milwaukee will all have fireworks on the Fourth, as well.
