Milwaukee Public Museum Announces Name Change

MPM will no longer be MPM when it opens in its new location in 2027.

The Milwaukee Public Museum is getting a new name along with its new location on the corner of Sixth Street and McKinley Avenue. On Tuesday, the museum announced that it will change its name to the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin when new location opens in 2027.

The name change comes with a new logo as well.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

The design was inspired by the new museum building’s shape, as well as the rock formations at Mill Bluff State Park in central Wisconsin. The colors used include “Wisconsin waters” and “Northwoods green.”

“This is a very exciting time for our institution,” said Ellen Censky, the museum’s president and CEO in a news release. “Our new museum’s name, the Nature & Culture Museum of Wisconsin, honors the work we’ve been doing for nearly 150 years – sharing the intertwined stories of our natural world and the diverse cultures that shape it.”

The museum’s collection of over 4 million items includes pieces from 72 Wisconsin counties and was originally chartered by the State of Wisconsin – the new name is meant to highlight the institution’s “shared statewide natural and cultural history and identity.”
