The cookies are available for pre-Valentine's Day pickup at several area locations.

A group of Milwaukeeans – some of them chefs and professional bakers, some home bakers – are banding together to make Valentine cookie boxes to support Planned Parenthood, which has been in the news recently as a result of a proposal to cut federal funds from the organization.

The bakers (18, at last count, and the number is growing) are making some pretty scrumptious sounding cookies for the cause.

For instance: pastry chef Allie Howard is making Snickerdoodles, cafe owner Nell Benton is doing raspberry brownies, and pastry chef Jaceleen Latin-Kasper is on Funfetti sugar cookie duty. Organizer Kris Collett is doing peanut pretzel white chocolate curry cookies. Other kinds include macarons, salted oatmeal chocolate chip, lemon sandwich and red velvet crackles.

The Cookie Love Box, each of which contains 18 cookies, is available for pickup only, no delivery. Pickup dates are Feb. 12 and 13 and at a couple of South, East and West locations. Cost is $50 per box. All proceeds support Planned Parenthood. Click here for more info.
