Kindred on KK

Now Open: Bay View’s Kindred on KK (“Micro-Hotel” Dining?)

A new restaurant and micro-hotel opened in Bay View this weekend, with a theme of “gathering.”

Kindred on KK (2535 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) just worked its first Bay View weekend – in an official capacity, that is. The focal point of the restaurant at the new Bay View “micro-hotel,” Kinn, is a huge communal table arrangement.

The “gathering” theme pipes through the menu, which groups small plates under the heading of “Gather.” The motif aligned the hotel’s owners – Charles and Connie Bailey – with the duo that signed on to operate the first-floor restaurant. They are Marija and Vesna Madunic, who met the Baileys through their business Gracious Catering.

Kindred’s opening menu starts in its small but share-able way, with lemongrass mussels, piri piri fried chicken leg, duck confit flatbread, parsnip gnocchi, fontina-stuffed lamb meatballs with spicy tomato sauce and edam cheese croquettes ($6-$13). Five larger plates – burger, seared striped bass, oven-roasted Berkshire pork chop, stout braised short ribs ($13-$25) – round out the savory part of the dinner menu. For desserts, there’s dark chocolate budino, gingerbread pudding and cinnamon sugar crullers ($5-$7).

Marija Madunic intends to roll out Saturday-Sunday brunch service in the near future. This summer, the terrace will also debut – with a fire pit and seating for up to 60 diners.

The hotel Kinn is open as well. Its suites, as you’ll notice in the link, offer plenty of lodging eye candy.

Kitchen hours: Tues 4-9 p.m.; Wed-Thurs 4-10 p.m.; Fri 4-11 p.m.; Sat 5-11 p.m.; Sun 5-9 p.m.
