Such a pity that Mardi Gras (a.k.a., Fat Tuesday) is traditionally just a one-day affair. But Maxie’s (6732 W. Fairview Ave.) started celebrating early – Sunday the 15th – and won’t stop the storm of Hurricanes and duck gumbo until Fat Tuesday is over. The restaurant is serving a special NOLA-ized menu – jambalaya, blackened hamburger steak with pepper gravy, catfish courtbuillon, crawfish etoufee and more still ($5.95-$17.95). Pay attention to the heated party tent in the parking lot. That’s where the Extra Crispy Jazz Band performs on Lundi Gras (6-8 p.m.) and Mardi Gras (3-6 p.m.). Drink specials include $4 Abita beer and $5 Hurricanes. And the King Cake will be served promptly at 10 p.m. (414-292-3969)
