The Rep is kicking off with two opportunities this week on Tuesday (Sept. 20) and Wednesday (Sept. 21) for Titanic: The Musical. Tickets will be available at the box office at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the performance and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until the show sells out. The Rep doesn’t specify a suggested payment. This is the first of several that will be offered throughout the season.

First Stage pay-what-you-choose nights will also be offered on first-come, first-served basis, and the minimum suggested donation is $5 per person. The first performance will be Arthur and Friends Make a Musical on Oct. 14 followed by several more throughout the season, including The Hobbit, Little Women, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Doors open at 6 p.m. on the day of the performances.

The Rep and First Stage are just two of a handful of performing arts groups around town that offer these pay-what-you-can or discount nights. Next Act Theatre also offers one pay-what-you-can show per production run.
“Attendees at these Monday evening shows include ‘regulars’ who depend upon the removal of economic barriers to enjoy live theatre, as well as fellow professionals (usually not rehearsing or performing on Mondays) who take the opportunity to catch up with onstage colleagues,” Next Act producing artistic director David A. Cecsarini says.
Ticket’s and more information are available on Next Act’s website.
