Lauryn Hill to Play Riverside Theater February 4

Lauryn Hill to Play Riverside Theater February 4

This is her first Milwaukee show in over a decade.

The R&B singer, producer, rapper and former Fugees member whose music from her solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill broke all kinds of records in 1999 is set to return to Milwaukee after a 15-year hiatus. Not only was the album nominated for 10 Grammy awards that year, but four years later, Rolling Stone named it one of the best albums of all time. The album cemented her place in the neo-soul and R&B worlds, and it influenced artists from Adele to Nicki Minaj. She’ll play the Riverside Theater on Feb. 4.

She’s calling the tour the MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! From her site:

The MLH Caravan allows me to continue the theme of unity and celebration of the many facets of cultural and artistic beauty throughout the African diaspora while on tour this summer and fall. In these days of tension, tumult and transition, an exchange of this kind can yield direction, expression, understanding and empowerment as well as connection, self Love and appreciation that hopefully overflows into our respective communities.

Tickets go on sale Oct. 21.

Let’s now take a moment to relish in the splendor that is her rendition of “His Eye is On the Sparrow” with Tanya Blount.

And the never-not-catchy “Doo Wop (That Thing)”:
