Kinship Café Dishes Up Mission-Driven Comfort Food

Kinship Café offers healthy food and workforce training, continuing the legacy of The Tandem in a new Bronzeville home.

Bronzeville’s new Kinship Café (in ThriveOn King, 2153 N. Martin Luther King Dr.) is soul-feeding in more ways than one.

An extension of Kinship Community Food Center, the cafe implements the center’s mission of providing healthy food and serving as a training ground for people reentering the workforce. It’s also just a great place to grab a bite and hang out for a bit.

I recently did both, devouring a tofu banh mi bowl with soy-roasted oyster mushrooms and spicy tofu, knowing I’d be back soon for “That Tandem Sandwich,” a nod to the fried chicken immortalized by food center director Caitlin Cullen when she owned The Tandem in Lindsay Heights. Hours: Mon-Fri 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
