June 7: Charanga Agoza
If you missed the first Jazz in the Park, don’t worry, because week two is just as great as week one. Charanga Agoza is gracing the Jazz in the Park stage on Thursday, June 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Cathedral Square Park (520 E. Wells St.). The group has been playing together since 2009 and is based in Madison, WI.
As a charanga ensemble, the group plays the Cuban inspired dance music that became popular in the 1950s. Some of their musical styles include the danzón, the chachachá and the mambo, among other modern day salsas.
Charanga Agoza is comprised of 10 players: vocalist Yanzelmalee Riveral, flutist Jessie Mitchell, violinist Amber Dolphin, trombonist Brian Whitty, trombonist Carrie Backman, pianist Paul Muench, bassist John Mesoloras, timbalist and vocalist Roberto Rengel, conguero and vocalist Alfredo Rodrigez and bongos player and vocalist Jose Madera.
Whether you want to just bring a blanket and some snacks or you’re ready to whip out your dancing shoes, stop by Jazz in the Park for a wonderful evening of entertainment. For more of Charanga Agoza’s music, you can check out some of their samples online.
