In Response

Editor-in-Chief Carole Nicksin responds to readers’ concerns about our December 2016 cover and wraparound advertisement.

Speaking on behalf of myself and the staff of the magazine, we are all very proud of our December cover and the accompanying story on race in Milwaukee, entitled “Come Together.” Advertisements are how we pay our bills, and the wraparound ad on the December issue was booked long before we assigned this story, and before any decisions about the actual cover were made. We don’t let advertising influence our editorial content, so our decision to put Tyrone Miller on the cover was independent of the ad. By no means were we “hiding” the actual cover. On behalf of myself and the staff of Milwaukee Magazine, I apologize for any confusion that the ad created. I sincerely hope that you take the time to read the story, and I hope it sparks some spirited conversation.
