The first time the new homeowners saw this house in person, they had already bought it. The young couple had snagged the 1988 home in Hartland sight unseen, and when they walked through it the first time, they knew it was in need of serious renovations.

First and foremost was the kitchen. They wanted to introduce their personal style, while also improving the space’s functionality – so they turned to Design Tech Remodeling, an award-winning, family-owned Milwaukee area residential remodeling firm. “The homeowners really wanted to maximize the storage and functionality in the kitchen by adding drawers and rollouts to their cabinets,” says Nicole Raffensperger, owner and lead designer at Design Tech. “We added cabinets that have extra space and hidden storage features without compromising the look.”

The homeowners emphasized their desire for clean lines and chic details. They wanted to brighten the space, which originally had yellow walls and dark wood cabinets. Raffensperger replaced the wood with sleek white cabinets with silver accents. A quartz backsplash with crystal flecks behind the induction cooktop now complements the cooler-toned space.

The worn original floors were removed and replaced. A large island added style and function, as a place both for food preparation and family gathering. Raffensperger opened up the space by removing a structural wall that had separated the kitchen and family room. The sightline into the family room now offers the couple a view of their fireplace – and the opportunity to keep an eye on their young children.

“The homeowner wanted to incorporate some ‘bling’ in the design,” says Raffensperger, who worked in luxurious finishes while making sure upkeep was simple. “We included flecks of crystals in the countertops and crystal in the hanging light fixtures. Those details really brought their vision to life.”
