How a Photographer Captured This Sweeping Bridge Shot

This Green Bay photographer finds beauty in unexpected places.

Brittany Bartz wonders if she was a troll in another life. “I have a strong preference for nature shots, but I have always been drawn to bridges as well,” she says. “There’s just something about them. … I like when bridges serve as leading lines.

That’s what I was going for in this photo.” This span, one of several of the I-43/I-41 interchange in Bartz’s home of Green Bay, points to a dramatic sky. The highway is a frequent conduit to the Northwoods this time of year, but beneath all the concrete is a delicate (and, here, reflective) marsh.

“While this place has some beautiful views surrounding it,” Bartz says, “I suspect that most people would not go looking for beauty under a highway overpass.”
