How a Photographer Captured This Summery Lakefront Photo

You can’t see this view from the skyglider!

When you picture Summerfest in your mind, it’s probably under bright sun or a brilliant golden sunset. But the smile-logo fest takes on a blue hue under a clouded sunset in this shot by Milwaukee semipro photographer Joshua Wankowski.

Along with the minute detail of the crowds and skyline, he loves the way “the contrast between the clouds, sunset, festival and lakefront just combine for a solarpunk-type vibe,” he says. “More simply though, it reminds me of good times and having fun.” His favorite Summerfest moment: being in the mosh pit for the nearly six-hour Green Day/Fall Out Boy/Weezer show in 2021.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
