Hot Drinks and A Brunch Festival in This Bites

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

Just in time for a cold weekend, Tarik Moody and I have some warming drinks for you in the latest This Bites (on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee). It’s part of a podcast that also offers news about a “zero-waste” grocery store, a Korean restaurant pop-up coming up in a few weeks and an event this weekend for brunch lovers.

To start, though, we suggest some ways to warm up. Tarik is a big fan of Foundation tiki bar in Riverwest, and is counting down the minutes to when the place adds a few hot spiked drinks to its winter offerings. I have a few suggestions myself, including Rochambo’s Irish coffee and Von Trier’s Hot Butterscotch drink fortified with butterscotch schnapps. Yum!

On Saturday Nov. 2, you might also consider warming up at Let’s Brunch MKE, happening at Glass + Griddle and featuring vendors like Saz’s, Smoke Shack, Great Lakes Distillery and Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequilaria

And if you’re concerned about the amount of waste that comes along with shopping for groceries, you might welcome the opening (by this year’s end) of The Glass Pantry. The shop will sell items in bulk; customers will bring their own containers and storage bags to carry what they buy.

And we finish the segment with two pop-ups a Korean dining event at Amilinda on Nov. 11 and the deli popup currently happening at Oak & Oyster, in the lower level of Third Coast Provisions.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
