Fondy Farmers Market Celebrates Its Opening and BBQ Cook-off on June 18

The market, now open four days a week, holds one of its biggest food competitions of the summer.

The regular Fondy Farmers Market (2200 W. Fond du Lac Ave.) season has officially begun. That’s cause for a celebration and the annual Fondy BBQ Cookoff this Saturday, June 18 (7 a.m.-3 p.m.).

The competition for the city’s best BBQ chicken and pork ribs will be judged by six locals, including Amilinda chef/co-owner Gregory Leon, Braise’s Dave Swanson and Irie Zulu’s Yollande Deacon. The market’s 40 vendors are all expected to be on hand selling fruits, vegetables and herbs; honey, baked goods and cheeses; spices and prepared foods. Two additional food competitions take place later this summer: the Greens Throw-down (July 16) and Pho Cookoff (August 20). Hours: Sat 7 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sun 8 a.m.-3 p.m.; Tues, Thurs 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Click here for more info about Fondy.
