After further review, the decision to ban fireworks at Milwaukee Milkmen games this season has been overturned.
Fireworks will return after the May 24 game between the Milkmen and the Sioux Falls Canaries. The team took to social media to announce the decision with the post: “Back with a BANG!”
The Franklin Common Council, during a special meeting on Wednesday, reconsidered a vote to prohibit fireworks after Milwaukee Milkmen games at Franklin Field.
By a 5-0 vote, the council flipped its original decision and decided to allow fireworks displays, under certain conditions. The vote to reconsider came after an appeal by ROC Ventures, which operates the Rock Sports Complex, the sports and entertainment development that includes Franklin Field.
The Franklin Common Council initially voted on May 7 decided to prohibit fireworks after Milkmen games this season. The decision came during a meeting that lasted more than seven hours as the council debated a temporary use application by ROC Ventures for the 2024 Milkmen season at Franklin Field and during which maximum decibel levels were also set for Milkmen games.
The decision to ban fireworks drew the ire of American Association Commissioner Josh Schaub, who attended the Milkmen season-opener at Franklin Field. He called the decision “un-American.”
The initial application requested permission for fireworks at nine games, including the Milkmen season-opener at Franklin Field on May 10. The initial vote prevented fireworks for that game. An amended application included eight dates and mentions a 10-minutes time limit for the fireworks displays, which must be completed by 10 p.m.
Fireworks will be held after the following Milkmen games this season: May 24, June 7, 14 and 28, July 12 and 26, Aug. 2 and 23.
