Everything You Need to Know About Tonight’s Light the Hoan Ceremony

The Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge will be lit tonight and will continue to shine on a daily basis.

The time has finally come for the Hoan Bridge to be lit.  You can conveniently catch the Light the Hoan event today from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on WTMJ, Ch. 4.

“Light the Hoan, Code the Hoan and 88Nine Radio MKE will partner to broadcast a music-driven light show, to demonstrate the unique capability of the bridge lights and share the celebration city-wide, ” according to the press release.

The light show will consist of music by local artists on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and will be telecast on WTMJ. The lighting will also be live-streamed on the Light the Hoan page on Facebook. Light the Hoan encourages the public to watch the ceremony online or on television due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Something truly unique about the Hoan lighting is that it can do animations and change colors, but the fun does not stop there. The lights can be synchronized to respond to external events such as home runs at Brewers game, big plays at Bucks games or other live events.

Light the Hoan has raised a good portion of funds for the $4.6 million project from private sources. If you would like to have your own part in lighting the Hoan, you can purchase a bulb dedication on the organization’s website.

The Light the Hoan initiative hopes that by lighting the bridge it will not only make an Instagram-worthy photo but also a representation of “bringing Milwaukeeans together” to bring forth positive stories to, hopefully, spark economic and cultural changes.
