Rotten news: After this month, Dairyland – the great emporium of burgers, chicken sandwiches and scratch-made frozen custard – will no longer operate at 3rd Street Market Hall (275 W. Wisconsin Ave.).
That isn’t by choice, says co-founder Kurt Fogle. Dairyland and its sister business Mid-Way Bakery were asked to leave by the market hall’s operators, he says.
The businesses’ last day will likely be June 28.

“We told our staff yesterday, and they’re all troopers,” says Fogle. “We built this thing together, and [they] will stick with us to the end.”
Dairyland and Mid-Way Bakery were the market hall’s first signed tenants in spring of 2021 and have anchored the space since its opening in early 2022. Fogle’s business partners include his wife/pastry chef Katie Fogle and his longtime friend/fellow chef Joe McCormick.
The two businesses will be replaced by Bebe Zito, which has three locations in the Minneapolis area. The business serves burgers, chicken sandwiches and small-batch, hand-crafted ice cream. It may open this summer.
As for the future of Dairyland, Fogle, who’s also a culinary instructor at MATC, says it’s very much unclear: “We don’t have the resources to open another restaurant, but we’ve survived a lot to make this thing hang around, and we’re gonna try.”
