Hinterland is also bringing on former Blue Jacket chef Matt Kerley as general manager/executive chef.
Dan Van Rite, longtime chef at the Third Ward’s Hinterland, and Dan Jacobs, formerly of Bay View’s Odd Duck, are partnering up to open a restaurant in the old Tulip (360 E. Erie St., Third Ward). The duo have not released the name of their venture, nor are they ready to talk about the cuisine. Prior to working at Odd Duck, Jacobs was the chef at Wolf Peach in Brewers Hill. Renovation plans are in the preliminary stages. Van Rite will remain at Hinterland until later this winter.
As for Hinterland (222 E. Erie St., Suite 100), owner Bill Tressler has hired Matt Kerley as general manager/executive chef. Kerley — best known for heading the kitchen at the late Blue Jacket — will “oversee the whole operation,” says Tressler. Sous chef Dan Turek will take over the role of chef de cuisine. Kerley officially joins the Hinterland crew on Feb. 16
