This Bites: Solo Dining, Fish Fries and Brunch

The culinary podcast featuring 88Nine’s Tarik Moody and MilMag’s Ann Christenson talking about all things dining-related.

Going it alone. Dining, that is. Lots of people dine out alone by choice or necessity. On the latest This Bites podcast (on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee), I mention a few of the places I like to dine by myself. See more of them in my monthly “Ask Ann” column.

This is a popular time for fish fries, with Lent in full swing. Lots and lots of fries are on offer at local restaurants. Which ones are worth going to? Tarik and I talk about a couple of good fries from a much longer list posted on the Mil Mag website

Winter has come to a close (according to the calendar, anyway), but Amilinda’s Winter Brunch Series continues until April 28. That’s every Sunday (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) until then. Learn what’s on the menu and how it’s not just like any other pancake-and-scrambled-eggs Sunday brunch

Finally, there are two fests coming up, both on March 30. One is the 4th annual MKE Vegan Expo at the UWM Student Union. The free event has guest speakers, cooking demos, food and more. And at Turner Hall Ballroom, there’s Lager & Friends Festival. One detail to know about Tarik: he trumpets the under-appreciated lager.

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
