‘Beerpartisanship’ Is Bringing Milwaukeeans Together For Beer and Community

As the city gears up for the RNC, the Historic Third Ward is bridging the political divide by cracking open a cold one.

Leading up to and during the RNC, which runs July 15-17 in Milwaukee, the Historic Third Ward Association is putting politics aside and bringing the community together through #Beerpartisanship.

The Historic Third Ward has already started hanging posters designed by Third Ward-based Hanson Dodge advertising agency to advocate inclusivity and celebrate good beer during the RNC. The posters’ designs are reminiscent of political propaganda posters throughout history.

Tell us who you’d pick to be a Betty this year!

The poster campaign will run through the RNC, leading up to an evening of crisp brews and live music at the Third Ward Beer Garden on July 17.

The event will feature the free, limited-edition “Reach Across the Ale” beer from Explorium Brewpub, which was renamed for the celebration. Explorium Brewpub will be joined by Wizard Works Brewing and other local breweries at the Third Ward Beer Garden. #Beerpartisanship tees will also be for sale at the beer garden during the day.

“It only made sense we would create a little levity, and revelry, at this unique time,” Jordan Dechambre of the Historic Third Ward Association said. “#Beerpartisanship? Of course, who doesn’t want to be ‘team beer’?”

The concept of #Beerpartisanship came to be after Hanson Dodge approached the Historic Third Ward Association to collaborate on a bipartisan initiative to unite residents and visitors during the convention in a true Milwaukee fashion – with beer.

“When we found out Milwaukee was awarded the RNC, we wondered how we could bring people together,” Hanson Dodge Creative Director Mitch Markussen announced in a press release from the Historic Third Ward Association. “We thought, instead of highlighting our differences, let’s have some fun with some easier conversations.”

At the beer garden, Hanson Dodge and the Historic Third Ward Association will also work to bring people together with the official #Beerpartisan card game, where folks from different political parties will win a free beer when they agree on one of the questions listed on the cards.

Throughout the evening, Hanson Dodge will film individuals playing the game and share the conversations on Instagram at @historicthirdward and @hanson_dodge.

“It’s hard to argue or disagree when you have a smile on your face, and a beer in your hand,” Markussen continued.

The #Beerpartisanship celebration will take place from 4-7 p.m. at the Third Ward Beer Garden on July 17.
