Beer Events Brewing This Week: Oct. 1-5

Beer releases, Oktoberfest celebrations and drinking beer on a boat. There’s plenty to do for craft beer lovers this week.

Tuesday, Oct. 1

1840 Brewing (342 E. Ward St.) is opening a day early this week at 6 p.m. to show the Brewers/Nationals National League wild-card game. They’re also releasing Home Brewed IPA on tap. The beer will be available in bottles on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 2

Try a few marzens with the Milwaukee Beer Society at Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for members ($15 for non-members).

Try Lakefront Brewery’s new Double IPA at a release party at Stubby’s Gastrogrub & Beer Bar (2060 N. Humboldt Ave.) at 6 p.m. The beer clocks in at a potent 8.8% ABV.

Thursday, Oct. 3

A Night of Wood at Explorium Brewpub (5300 S. 76th St.) is one of the week’s highlights. Explorium is tapping five barrel-aged brews at 11 a.m. and for $15 you can get a flight of all of them.

Zoo Brew celebrates its 10th year of a night of beer and food sampling at the Milwaukee County Zoo (10001 W. Bluemound Rd.) from 7 to 10 p.m. More than 30 breweries will be there. Tickets start at $50.

Friday, Oct. 4

Milwaukee Oktoberfest lasts all weekend, but kicks off at 5 p.m. with a ceremonial keg tapping and free beer at Pere Marquette Park (900 N. Plankinton Ave.). Check out the website for the full schedule and logistics.

Get on board the Denis Sullivan at Discovery World (500 N. Harbor Dr.) for a two-hour sail with Sprecher Brewery from 5 to 7 p.m. The family-friendly event includes both beer and soda. Cost is $60 for members ($70 for non-members).

Brushes and Brews lets you express your artistic self while sipping on a beer or two. Head to the Vibez Creative Arts Space at Sherman Phoenix (3536 N. Fond du Lac Ave.) from 7 to 9 p.m. For $35 you get a blank canvas and a flight of beers.

WarPigs is bringing a few beers to The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) from 6 to 9 p.m.

Try beers from City Lights Brewing at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 4 to 7 p.m.

Sample brews from Crooked Stave and Green Bench at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow Ave.) from 4 to 7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5

OktoHarvest comes to Urban Harvest Brewing (1024 S. 5th St.) from 1 to 10 p.m. Try the brewery’s Oktoberfest brew and celebrate the coming of fall.

Eagle Park Brewing (823 E. Hamilton Ave.) is releasing four beers, three of which are collaborations, at 11 a.m. The list features Melt: Monte Plata Imperial Stout, Mighty Mighty Hop Cones New England IPA, Bahama Mama Fruited Sour and Milkshake IPA.

Oktoberfest at Pabst Milwaukee Brewery and Taproom (1037 W. Juneau Ave.) celebrates 175 years of brewing. The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Get there at noon for a tapping of an Oktoberfest firkin.

Sahale Ale Works (1505 Wisconsin Ave., Grafton) celebrates its Oktoberfest Fest from noon to 8:30 p.m. Try beers from a number of Wisconsin’s best breweries.

If you miss the Sprecher sail, there’s always the Brew Sail with Good City Brewing on the Denis Sullivan. The boat tours Lake Michigan from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $85 for members ($95 for non-members).
