Beer Events Brewing This Week: Feb. 27-Mar. 3

Craft beer fans have a big week ahead. The end of February brings with it the arrival of Fair State Brewing Cooperative, plenty of beer tastings and even a fanny pack giveaway.

Tuesday, Feb. 27

Historian John Gurda presents Milwaukee on Tap: How We Became Beer Capital of the World at Good City Brewing (2108 N. Farwell Ave.). Learn about Milwaukee’s brewing history while sitting in one of the breweries leading the local brewery resurgence. The cost is $5 and the learning starts at 7 p.m.

ABV Social (11200 W. Burleigh St.) hosts a tasting with Abita Brewing at 6 p.m. and the Louisiana brewery is bringing some big stuff. Try three barrel-aged beers and Cypress Kriek Sour Cherry Ale. The cost is $20 for four small pours of each.

The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) is launching One Barrel Fanny Pack IPA at 5 p.m. And, if you buy one you get, well, a fanny pack to wear at the touristy destination of your choice.

Crafty Cow (153 E. Wisconsin Ave., Oconomowoc) welcomes Fair State Brewing Cooperative to town with a launch party that starts at 5 p.m. Pair a few of their brews with a small plates menu.

Wednesday, Feb. 28

Fair State Brewing Cooperative brings its well-regarded brews from the Twin Cities to Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.). Starting at 5 p.m. you can try a few.

Third Space Brewing comes to the Behind the Brew event at Brew City MKE (275 W. Wisconsin Ave.) from 6 to 8 p.m. Third Space founders Kevin Wright and Andy Gehl are both engaging, and they’ll be talking about barrel aging. They will also pour samples including Nexus of the Universe Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout. What’s extra cool about that is they’ll be pouring the non barrel-aged base beer with it. You don’t get the chance to do that very often. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.

As of last weekend there will still a few spots open for the two Potosi beer dinners at Tess (2499 N. Bartlett Ave.). The dinners (on both Wednesday and Thursday) start with a 6 p.m. reception. The cost is $55 and reservations can be made by calling 414-964-8377.

Thursday, March 1

In honor of Fair State Brewing Coop’s arrival, Burnhearts (2599 S. Logan Ave.) is hosting the Hot Dish Potluck and Competition at 6 p.m. Bring a Crock-Pot brimming with any delicious concoction and see how it measures up to others.

Friday, March 2

Founders hands out samples at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 4 to 7 p.m.

Try the delicious brews from WarPigs at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow St.) from 3 to 6 p.m.

Saturday, March 3

The Oconomowoc Brewfest kicks off at 5 p.m. at La Belle Golf Club (6996 Pennsylvania St., Oconomowoc). For $55 you can sample beers from breweries like Third Space, City Lights, Explorium Brewpub, Biloba, Sweet Mullets, Lakefront, Raised Grain and more.

Gathering Place Brewing Company (811 E. Vienna Ave.) is releasing an extremely limited beer at noon. Kaffeehaus is a coffee Kolsch made with the help of Kickapoo Coffee. The choice of style is an intriguing one, and if you want to try it get there early. Gathering place only has a half barrel of Kaffeehaus.

Discount Liquor Waukesha has samples from Founders from noon to 3 p.m.
