Gathering Place Brewing is the latest new local brewery to celebrate a birthday, and that's a good thing.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

Draft & Vessel (4417 N. Oakland Ave.) provides a preview of Gathering Place Brewing’s Meric, a brut Imperial IPA aged in sauvignon blanc barrels. Try it here first, and then pick some up at Gathering Place when it’s released there on Saturday.

This little brewing outfit called New Glarus takes over the taps at Ray’s Growler Gallery (8930 W. North Ave.). Maybe you’ve heard of them. Get there at 5 p.m. to see what’s on tap.

Learn about one of Ireland’s staples at Irish Beer 101: Guinness History at the CelticMKE Center (1532 N. Wauwatosa Ave.). The tasting and learning starts at 8 p.m. and costs $10.


Thursday, Aug. 16

Get some high-intensity interval training in before having a beer or two at HIIT-N-Hops. The 45-minute workout at Juneau Park (900 N. Prospect Ave.) is followed by a beer or two at the traveling beer garden. The cost is $35 in advance and $45 if you sign up at the park.

Try Bofferding samples at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow St.) from 4 to 6 p.m.


Friday, Aug. 17

Try samples from Summit Brewing at Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 5 to 7 p.m.


Saturday, Aug. 18

Gathering Place (811 E. Vienna St.) hosts its first anniversary party from noon to 10 p.m. To mark the occasion, the brewery is releasing five limited beers including Merci Brut IIPA aged in Sauvignon blanc barrels (noon), Une Petite Priere Belgian Single aged in chardonnay barrels (2 p.m.), Peach Gruss Gott Hefeweizen with peaches (4 p.m.), Lederhosen Tuxedo Weizenbock (6 p.m.) and The Wordsmith Wheat Wine (8 p.m.). Food trucks will be there to provide a base. Cheers to owner Joe Yeado for the milestone.

St. Francis Brewery (3825 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) releases Belgian Sunset, a Belgian amber ale with sweet cherries that’s been aged in Merlot barrels. The limited beer release begins 11 a.m. Each 22-ounce bottle is (an extremely reasonable) $10 and the limit is two per person.

The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) hosts a tap takeover with Wisconsin Distributors starting at 11 a.m. This means that 80 taps will be pouring beers and a few rarities from the likes of Evil Twin, One Barrel, Epic, Door County, O’so and more.

Solemn Oath brings samples to Discount Liquor Milwaukee from 4 to 6 p.m.

Discount Liquor Waukesha hands out samples from Hinterland and Untitled Art from noon to 3 p.m.

Brewfinity takes over the taps at the Depot Beer Garden (corner of Pilgrim Rd. and County Line Rd. Q) from 4 to 9 p.m. and from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday.


Sunday, Aug. 19

Gathering Place is making a weekend out of it with an anniversary hangover party. It includes a buffet brunch from Döner MKE and two special beer releases perfect for brunch—Treffpunkt Kolsch infused with Kickapoo Coffee and Dry Debate Bellini, a brut IPA infused with peach puree.
