Some beer dinners are special. On Friday, Nov. 20, Bacchus (925 E. Wells St.) hosts the Masters of the Midwest Dinner starting at 6 p.m. The dinner combines the talents of New Glarus brewmaster Dan Carey, master cheesemaker Sid Cook, James Beard chef Adam Siegel and pork guru Herb Eckhouse. That’s quite a lineup. Carey is bringing some great beer with him including a one-off sour beer that’s a collaboration with Siegel. For $75 attendees can sample from an amazing menu. Call 414-765-1166 to make a reservation.
Barley Pop of the Week
The latest Thumbprint Series brew is New Glarus Milk Stout and it’s a really good one. The stout isn’t overly sweet and has a nice dark chocolate finish with a hint of coffee. The beer is flavorful, but not decadent. It’s a nicely drinkable brew and perfect for the arrival of fall.
Tess (2499 N. Bartlett Ave.) always seems to sell out its beer dinners. The restaurant sold out a New Holland beer dinner on Dec. 2, but added another one on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The menu includes four rare variants of Dragon’s Milk Barrel-Aged Stout and ancho smoked bison sliders (wow). The cost is $59 and it’s a good idea to call Tess today at 414-964-8377 to reserve a spot.
Oddly enough, I’ve never tried Sam Adams Utopias. This year might be the year. The 2015 version sounds like a winner according to Draft Magazine.
Last week, Molson Coors acquired MillerCoors, an expected move that helps with U.S. regulatory concerns resulting from AB InBev’s acquisition of SABMiller. The Denver Post has an interesting take on the whole big beer thing.

Note: I tried Amber Smashed Face over the weekend, and it’s delicious.
