The Middle Eastern restaurant focuses on vegetarian dishes and fresh juices.

Plan to make your first official greetings to Bay View’s Hello Falafel (2301 S. Howell Ave.) the week of May 15 — as long as the fast-casual Middle Eastern resto continues on its current path to fruition. The counter-service enterprise, created by the owners of Odd Duck (2352 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) is focused on vegetarian fare (salads, falafel, sides) and fresh juices.

With regard to the menu, the salads (two sizes – side and large entree) include quinoa tabbouleh with apple and kale in a preserved lemon vinaigrette; fattoush (bread salad) with roasted carrots, dates, golden raisins, pistachios and charred eggplant; and Israeli, with marinated cucumbers and tomatoes, baby greens and pickled mango. The falafel comes in either homemade laffa bread or on carrot-saffron rice pilaf with accompaniments. Falafel is available (a la carte, as well, with a choice of sauces – charred eggplant, house hummus, a spicy herb relish called zhoug, or roasted red pepper). Sides range from eggplant fries to lentil soup to a fried cauliflower side with date-walnut chutney. As for the fruit- or vegetable-based juices, the shop is starting with four made-to-order options (from which it will expand once the farmers markets open). Other bevs include from-scratch lemonade with rosewater, and limeade with dill, basil and mint. The coffee is by Anodyne; the tea, from Rishi.
